US Official Warns Israel on Gaza Agreement Compliance to Avoid Trump’s Disappointment

A senior American official spoke to N12 about the newly signed agreement in Gaza announced by US President Donald Trump, emphasizing that if Israel fails to uphold its commitments, Trump will be very disappointed. The official noted that the negotiations were highly sensitive over recent months and that implementation will begin in the coming weeks. He stressed close coordination with Israel throughout the process, despite Israeli reservations about including Turkey and Qatar in the Peace Council’s steering committee, which alongside Egypt, significantly aided the process.

The official described the technocratic Palestinian government as an alternative to Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, tasked with serving Gaza’s residents and transforming the territory from a military base into a civilian-focused area. He revealed that Iran tried to dissuade Hamas from signing the agreement, but Hamas ignored Iran, recognizing they needed to act in their own interest.

A Peace Council senior member added that the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza will be gradual, based on a timeline still under discussion, with disarmament expected to take between 200 and 350 days. The agreement requires Hamas to relinquish all civilian and security control in Gaza to the technocratic government. Disarmament will start with Hamas’s "blue police" handing over weapons to the new Palestinian police under the technocratic government, followed by the transfer and dismantling of heavy weapons, tunnels, and weapons factories, and finally the collection of light arms according to Palestinian law. Militias established by Israel will also have to surrender their weapons.

The official highlighted that the process will be monitored closely to ensure both sides meet their obligations, preventing armed factions from operating outside government control. An internal reconciliation agreement among Gaza factions will be promoted to prevent retaliatory violence. An international stabilization force will support training the new police, assist with weapons collection, and deploy between Palestinian areas and Israeli Defense Forces. The Israeli withdrawal will be phased, with the timeline still being finalized. Additionally, 12 countries worldwide will be involved in implementing various components of the Gaza plan.
