Israeli Forces Conduct Security Sweep in Sharon Region Following Terror Attack

On January 17, 2026, the South Sharon Regional Council alerted residents to a suspected security incident in the Sharon area, prompting the deployment of Israeli Defense Forces and police units for extensive searches. The council stated that the update came directly from the military and police, emphasizing that no special instructions were issued to the public at this stage but that updates would follow as the situation developed.

This alert comes months after a deadly shooting attack in June by Amr Mandar Yassin, a 35-year-old resident of Tayibe holding an Israeli ID, who killed one person and injured five others at a gas station in Kochav Yair. The attacker used a stolen gray Toyota with yellow license plates. Recently, police arrested another Tayibe resident suspected of involvement in the attack. The arrest was made by detectives from the Tayibe station in the Central District following intelligence that the suspect had admitted involvement and sought help to hide.

During the arrest, the suspect allegedly attempted to assault officers with a glass bottle but was subdued without injuries. Security forces, including Border Police and National Guard fighters, continue to search for additional accomplices and investigate whether others assisted the attacker before or after the incident. The ongoing operations aim to prevent further threats in the region.
