Yoav Eliasi Voluntarily Suspends Police Volunteer Role Amid Investigation, Not Dismissed

Contrary to recent media reports claiming that Israel Police Commissioner Major General Danny Levi dismissed Yoav Eliasi, known as "HaTzel," from his volunteer position, it has been clarified that Eliasi himself chose to suspend his volunteer service pending an ongoing investigation. The reports followed an investigative article published by Haaretz alleging that Eliasi exploited his police connections to benefit a Tel Aviv entertainment venue in which he was a partner. The article included recordings suggesting Eliasi discussed leveraging his police ties to influence authorities. It was also reported that Eliasi's firearm was confiscated and that the Police Investigations Department had opened a probe.

Eliasi's close associates criticized the police leadership, accusing Commissioner Levi of misleading the public by implying a dismissal. His lawyers, Ariel Atri and Yaniv Lankri, emphasized that Eliasi continues to serve as a commander with the rank of Chief Sergeant in the Tel Aviv District readiness unit and has been commended for his dedication to public security. They stressed that Eliasi initiated the suspension voluntarily and expects a formal process to hear his side before any decisions are made. Eliasi remains committed to upholding the law and anticipates returning to his command role after the investigation concludes.
