Israeli Police Chief Removes Rapper Yoav Eliasi from Command Over Misuse of Police Connections

Israeli Police Commissioner Major General Danny Levi has removed rapper Yoav Eliasi, known as "HaTzel" (The Shadow), from his position as commander of the rapid response unit in the Tel Aviv district. This decision followed an investigative report by the newspaper Haaretz, which revealed that Eliasi allegedly exploited his high-level police connections to benefit a nightlife venue he co-owned. The report included recordings of Eliasi boasting that his ties prevented the closure of a Tel Aviv club after a violent incident occurred there.

Prior to the dismissal, Member of Knesset Merav Ben Ari appealed to the acting head of the Police Investigations Department, Attorney Ronen Yitzhak, and Police Commissioner Levi, demanding a thorough investigation into the findings. Ben Ari stated, "If the reports are true, these are very serious allegations raising concerns that officials in the Israel Police acted contrary to their duties or allowed improper influence over law enforcement powers. I have called on the Police Investigations Department and the Police Commissioner to fully examine the circumstances. The public must know that any suspicion of improper interference in police work will be investigated thoroughly and exhaustively to maintain public trust in law enforcement."
