Ghana's Thomas Partey denied Canada entry, to miss World Cup opener
Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey will miss his national team's first World Cup match in Toronto after Canada refused to grant him an entry visa. The 32-year-old, who currently plays for Villarreal in Spain, cannot travel from Ghana's training camp in Boston to Canada because of the decision.
Partey has been charged with rape and sexual assault following complaints filed by four women between 2020 and 2022. His trial is scheduled for next year.
FIFA confirmed that Partey would not be able to enter Canada and said, "The host government is the one that decides who will receive a visa and be allowed to enter the country."
