Thomas Partey to Miss Ghana’s World Cup Opener After Canada Denies Visa
Thomas Partey will miss Ghana’s first match at the 2026 World Cup against Panama after Canadian authorities refused to grant him a visa because of the allegations against him in London.
The 32-year-old Villarreal midfielder is due to stand trial on seven rape charges and one count of sexual assault from his time at Arsenal. Partey denies the allegations.
He is expected to be available for Ghana’s next two Group I games, against England and Croatia, because those matches will be played in the United States. Ghana’s opening game, however, is scheduled to take place in Canada, where the visa decision blocked his entry.
