IDF Prepares Response to Hezbollah Drone Attack, Awaits Political Decision

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are preparing possible retaliatory options following a Hezbollah drone attack on an engineering vehicle in the Ali Tahar ridge area of Lebanon. The attack, which occurred overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday, is viewed by Israel as a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement. However, Israeli officials expect a measured response rather than a large-scale strike on Beirut.

Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi visited the Northern Command to review the implementation of the evolving ceasefire understandings amid ongoing Lebanese military activity near the border. Kochavi emphasized that any Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon would require a long-term security guarantee. He also stated that if necessary, the IDF is prepared to expand operations into additional areas.

Israeli security assessments indicate a rise in Iranian efforts to activate their proxies across the Middle East, including the Houthis, militias in Iraq, and Hezbollah. This could lead to increased threats and attempts to harm Israeli interests. Kochavi noted that the campaign on all fronts is ongoing and highlighted the need to increase troop numbers to meet expanding operational demands. He aims for all regular brigades to complete their refreshment cycles before the holiday season while minimizing reserve duty.
