Israel Awaits Trump Decision on Iran While Preparing Response to Hezbollah Drone Attack

Israeli security and political officials are closely monitoring two key developments: the awaited decision by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Iran, and preparations for a response to Hezbollah's violation of the ceasefire in Lebanon. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is awaiting Trump's ruling on a potential strike against Iran. Israeli officials have expressed approval of Trump's strong statements about inflicting severe damage on Iran, though a senior Israeli official clarified that no specific alternative was recommended to Trump during their meeting. Meanwhile, negotiations between Iran and the U.S. continue, with direct talks reportedly occurring between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff.

On the northern front, Israel is preparing to respond to Hezbollah's explosive drone attack that damaged an Israeli engineering vehicle near Mount Ali Taher in the security zone of southern Lebanon. The Israeli military described the incident as a blatant breach of the ceasefire agreement. Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir visited southern Lebanon and delivered a firm message: "We are prepared for any change in the situation. In Lebanon, we have captured territory and are clearing it of terror infrastructure. If necessary, we will deepen our operations and reach additional areas. The IDF is responsible for security and will not withdraw from captured areas until long-term security is assured."
