WhatsApp Enhances Group Video Calls with Browser Access and Call Transfer Features

WhatsApp has announced a series of significant upgrades to its group video calling capabilities, aiming to improve user convenience and call quality. The most notable update allows users to make and receive voice and video calls directly through WhatsApp Web, eliminating the need to switch devices or install additional apps. This browser-based service includes familiar features such as screen sharing, quick reactions, and a dedicated calls tab showing full call history, all while maintaining end-to-end encryption.

In addition, WhatsApp introduces a new "Call Transfer" feature that enables seamless switching of an active group call between devices without disconnecting or redialing. This allows users to move effortlessly from phone to computer during a call, preserving continuity for all participants. Another new feature is the "Waiting Room," which requires participants joining via a dedicated link to wait for host approval before entering the call, enhancing meeting control.

WhatsApp also improves call quality with the QuickHD feature, delivering high-definition video within seconds of call start, and an advanced noise filtering system that reduces background sounds and highlights the speaker's voice. These updates, which keep the platform's end-to-end encryption intact, are gradually rolling out and will soon be available to all users, promising to transform both professional and personal video communications on WhatsApp.
