WhatsApp Enables Direct Voice and Video Calls via Browser Without App Installation

WhatsApp has launched a major upgrade to its voice and video calling features, allowing users to make and receive calls directly through the web browser without needing to download any app or installation file. This update applies to both individual and group calls on WhatsApp Web, offering a seamless cross-platform experience.

The browser-based calls include all familiar functionalities from mobile devices, such as screen sharing, real-time reactions, call history viewing, and managing favorite contacts. A notable new feature lets users switch between devices during an active group call without disconnecting, enabling a smooth transition from phone to computer or vice versa with a single click.

For group calls, WhatsApp introduced a waiting room mechanism where participants must be approved by the host before joining when the feature is enabled. Additionally, a new QuickHD feature allows video calls to start in high definition from the very beginning. The update also includes an ambient noise reduction option to enhance audio clarity in noisy environments, which users can toggle on or off in the call settings menu.
