Partner Selected to Build Communication Network for Dan Region Congestion Tax Launching in 2028

The congestion tax project for the Dan metropolitan area in Israel is advancing, with a new phase set to begin. Electra has chosen Partner Communications to develop the communication infrastructure connecting approximately 220 toll gates to the system's computing centers. These gates will be spread across 140 charging sites in three concentric rings around the Dan region. The system is designed to automatically charge drivers based on the time and location of their entry, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and encourage public transportation use.

According to Electra, the congestion tax system is scheduled to become operational in 2028. The company estimates total revenues from the project over the concession period to be around 1.25 billion shekels. Partner's role includes designing, building, and operating a communication network that combines advanced fiber optic infrastructure with cellular backup connectivity to ensure high availability even during outages.

Partner will also provide ongoing monitoring, control, and maintenance services throughout the operation period, which is expected to last at least two decades. The company anticipates earning tens of millions of shekels in revenue over this time. This development marks a significant step forward in implementing the controversial congestion tax aimed at alleviating traffic in the densely populated Dan area.
