Israel Launches $250 Million Integrated Transport Hub to Ease Dan Region Traffic

A new integrated transport center named Tacham HaTayasim is set to be developed near Highway 40 in the Dan metropolitan area, with an investment exceeding 250 million shekels. The project will feature 180 electric bus stations, a parking lot with approximately 1,200 spaces, and will connect to the Moshe Cohen terminal of the Purple Light Rail line. The Purple Line route passes through the Tayasim junction to Highway 461, separating Yehud and Or Yehuda, continuing to Sheba Medical Center and the Ono Valley, then moving through Ramat Gan, Givatayim, and central Tel Aviv, ending near the Savidor train station.

The project includes dedicated bridges for vehicles, buses, and pedestrians to ensure efficient and accessible traffic flow. The transport hub is scheduled to open by mid-2029, about a year after the Purple Line light rail begins operation, with its terminal and maintenance center located nearby. The Ministry of Transport emphasized that this project is part of a broader strategic plan to establish integrated transport centers across Israel, linking trains, light rails, buses, park-and-ride facilities, and other transport modes to improve accessibility to employment, commerce, services, and residential areas.

Due to heavy traffic congestion in the area, especially during morning and afternoon rush hours, the project aims to reduce traffic loads, encourage public transport use, and enhance access for hundreds of thousands of residents. Currently, drivers often face delays of an hour or more at the 471 interchange before reaching Highway 4 or the Aluf Sadeh junction. Highway 461 also experiences significant congestion, partly due to ongoing infrastructure work for the Purple Line light rail.
