Police foil assassination attempt in Ashdod targeting organized crime figure
Israeli police said they foiled an assassination attempt in Ashdod on Tuesday afternoon against a senior figure in the criminal underworld. Investigators from the Lachish District Major Crimes Unit, together with the National Fraud and Cybercrime Unit in Lahav 433, neutralized an explosive device that had been attached to a vehicle in the city.
Police said the operation was carried out as part of Israel Police’s ongoing campaign against criminal organizations and violent actors. Following the incident, Lachish District commander Cmdr. Eliyahu Shmuel held a situational assessment and then assigned the case to the Lachish Major Crimes Unit.
The unit will now continue the investigation, gather and analyze evidence, and work to arrest those involved, police said. No details were released about possible suspects, the intended target, or whether anyone was injured.
