Police Thwart Assassination Attempt on Major Crime Figure After Bomb Found on Vehicle
Police in Israel said Friday that detectives from the Lachish District’s serious crimes unit and Lahav 433’s national organized crime unit foiled an assassination attempt against a senior crime figure. During the operation, officers found an explosive device attached to a vehicle and bomb disposal specialists from the Lachish area neutralized it without injuries or damage.
Following the incident, Lachish District commander, Chief Superintendent Eliyahu Shmuel, held a situation assessment and ordered the case transferred to the district’s investigative unit to complete all investigative steps, collect and locate evidence, and arrest those involved. Police said they are already working to gather evidence and detain suspects.
The force said the operation was part of its ongoing campaign against crime organizations and violent actors, aimed at protecting public safety. Police added that they will continue using all operational, intelligence, and investigative tools available to them to act decisively against criminal elements.
The article also noted a separate case from last month in Ashdod, where three suspects were arrested in a police operation targeting violence, drug trafficking, and other criminal activity. During that operation, police seized large quantities of suspected drugs, including about 9.3 kilograms of suspected cannabis and suspected crystal meth, after searches at one suspect’s home and another apartment linked to the suspects.
