Iran Set to Receive Up to 400 Chinese Shoulder-Fired Air Defense Missiles

Iran is expected to receive its first shipment within weeks of up to 400 shoulder-fired air defense missile launchers from China, according to three sources involved in the deal who spoke to Reuters. The purchase, valued between 60 and 70 million US dollars, represents Tehran's effort to bolster its short-range air defense capabilities. The contract reportedly includes between 300 and 400 man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS). However, the Chinese Foreign Ministry dismissed the reports as "completely unfounded." Additionally, two Western intelligence sources and an Iranian official indicated that Tehran has explored using overland routes to discreetly transport Chinese military supplies and dual-use components.
