China Set to Deliver Hundreds of Mobile Air Defense Launchers to Iran Within Weeks

China is expected to send hundreds of mobile air defense missile launchers to Iran in the coming weeks, reflecting the strengthening alliance between Tehran and Beijing. According to a Reuters report published on July 29, 2026, the deal involves transferring between 300 and 400 mobile launchers to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, with the first shipment anticipated shortly. The delivery, valued at approximately 60 to 70 million dollars, aims to bolster Iran's air defense capabilities, which have been significantly damaged during ongoing conflicts, including confrontations with the United States.

The shipment is planned to originate from Urumqi in western China and transit through Pakistan en route to Iran. Western intelligence sources and a senior Iranian official indicated that Tehran is also exploring covert overland routes for transporting Chinese military equipment and dual-use components to minimize the risk of disruption. Both China and Pakistan have officially denied involvement, with the Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasizing their consistent efforts to promote peace and resolve conflicts.

The mobile launchers are particularly valuable due to their rapid deployment, mobility, and operation by small crews, designed to intercept low-flying aircraft, helicopters, and drones.
