Israeli Defense Minister Reveals US Airstrikes from Israel Target Iran, Explains Tehran’s Restraint

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant disclosed unprecedented details about military cooperation between Israel and the United States against Iran during a Channel 14 conference on Tuesday. Gallant revealed that American fighter jets take off from Israeli bases to carry out strikes inside Iran, a fact well known to the Iranian regime in Tehran. This awareness, he explained, is the main reason Iran refrains from firing directly at Israel despite ongoing regional tensions.

Gallant emphasized the fluidity of the security situation, warning that the current calm could change rapidly. He stated, "If they fire on Israel, we will respond with full force," underscoring Israel’s readiness to retaliate decisively against any Iranian aggression. This declaration reflects Israel’s firm deterrence posture and its commitment to defending its sovereignty.

In addition to highlighting the US-Israel operational coordination, Gallant stressed Israel’s independent operational capabilities. He recalled two previous Israeli strikes inside Iran and affirmed that Israel is prepared to conduct a third strike independently if necessary, without Washington’s coordination. This underscores Israel’s determination to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and maintain regional security.

The revelations come amid a complex campaign against Iran, where Israel has targeted Iranian nuclear and oil facilities with precision strikes. Despite expectations of a strong Iranian response, Tehran has so far avoided direct attacks on Israeli territory, in contrast to its actions against American targets in the region. Gallant attributed this restraint primarily to Iran’s knowledge of US air operations launched from Israel.

Meanwhile, Russia has completed production of 20 advanced Su-35 fighter jets for Iran, a development that could shift the regional air power balance and compel Israel to maintain aerial superiority and advanced operational capabilities. The US has also indicated a narrow window for diplomatic breakthroughs with Iran, warning of potential renewed military action if talks fail.
