Israeli Police Arrest Driver Who Fled Backwards and Faked Identity at Majd al-Krum Checkpoint

A 27-year-old driver from Majd al-Krum was caught by Israeli traffic police while driving despite a long-standing license suspension. Upon spotting a police checkpoint near Highway 85, the driver attempted a dangerous escape by reversing his vehicle onto a divider, endangering other motorists. Police quickly pursued and stopped him.

During initial questioning, the driver falsely identified himself as his brother, hoping to avoid detection. However, a rapid police database check revealed his true identity and a severe driving record. He had been banned from holding a license for 21 months by court order and was serving community service for previous driving offenses. Additionally, he was under a suspended prison sentence and was caught driving during his ongoing service.

Body camera footage from the arrest shows a policewoman confronting the driver about his deception and informing him of his arrest on suspicion of driving while disqualified. Following the arrest, the police seized and impounded his vehicle for 30 days. The driver was transferred for a comprehensive investigation by the Galilee traffic unit.

The police announced they filed serious charges against him, requested his detention until trial, and sought to extend his license suspension through the court process.
