IDF Launches Broad Operation Against Smuggling Networks Along West Bank Border

The Israel Defense Forces recently conducted a large-scale operation resulting in the arrest of approximately 30 suspects involved in smuggling and aiding illegal infiltrations into Israel. This operation, carried out by the Ephraim Brigade, targeted multiple villages along the West Bank border, including Tulkarm, Qalqilya, Azun Atma, and Shuweika. The IDF emphasized that the focus was on dismantling the organizational and operational infrastructure enabling these infiltrations, rather than solely apprehending illegal entrants.

This operation is part of a broader strategic shift in the IDF’s approach to securing the West Bank border, known as the "seam line." Over the past year, the Ephraim Brigade has led changes in intelligence and operational tactics, including the establishment of a dedicated "Seam Line Cell" to centralize intelligence and provide updated situational awareness. The IDF identified that many infiltrations are conducted by systematic smuggling cells operating along the border.

Consequently, the IDF shifted its focus from targeting individual infiltrators to disrupting the smuggling networks and their infrastructure. The recent operation involved simultaneous actions across several locations to arrest suspects and dismantle smuggling chains. Additional security enhancements include the creation of the "Panther" battalion, specialized in seam line operations, expanded defensive measures, increased intelligence efforts, and offensive operations such as "Iron Wall" in Tulkarm against terror infrastructures threatening border communities.

Ephraim Brigade Commander Colonel P. stated, "Defense along the seam line begins with initiative and offensive actions. Continuous presence deep within villages, focused operations against smuggling infrastructures, and ongoing friction with the enemy generate quality intelligence, enabling enemy disruption and terror infrastructure prevention." The IDF continues to integrate intelligence, technology, operational activity, and cooperation with security agencies to prevent infiltration and terror threats along this critical security zone.
