Maccabi Tel Aviv Midfielder Shahar Likely to Stay Despite Overseas Interest

Ido Shahar emerged as a key player for Maccabi Tel Aviv last season, scoring 17 goals and providing five assists across all competitions. His contract expired this summer, but Maccabi exercised an option to extend it for another year and also offered him a new contract. Despite receiving offers to play abroad, Shahar is expected to remain with Maccabi Tel Aviv this season due to the contract extension.

The club relies on Shahar, who has already contributed with an assist in a 5-0 win over Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League qualifiers. If Shahar does not sign a new contract by the end of the season, he will become a free agent and able to join any club without a transfer fee. Shahar previously played overseas with Apollon Limassol, making 36 appearances.

A product of Maccabi Tel Aviv's youth academy, Shahar returned to the club in summer 2023 after several loan spells. He is now starting his fourth season with the team where he developed, which could also be his last if he opts to move abroad in the future.
