Maccabi Tel Aviv Midfielder Ido Shahar Seeks Immediate Exit Amid Contract Dispute

Maccabi Tel Aviv faces growing challenges as several players demand immediate transfers, compounded by a full foreign player quota limiting squad changes. Among them, midfielder Ido Shahar has refused the club's offer to extend his contract and is eager to leave Kiryat Shalom immediately. Shahar, who had a standout season last year scoring 13 goals, the second highest in the team after Dor Peretz, is dissatisfied with his current salary of approximately 200,000 euros, which he considers low relative to his contribution. After his request to double his salary was denied, and with the club exercising an option for the upcoming season, Shahar declined a contract extension proposal from the club's sporting director, Belgian Steven Vanhaeren. This decision means Shahar will be free to negotiate with other clubs starting January. Despite significant interest from Major League Soccer (MLS) teams, Maccabi Tel Aviv is expected to retain him until the end of the season, after which he will likely leave as a free agent.
