Israeli Couple Allegedly Used Children to Steal Goods in Eilat Vacation Scam

Israeli police are investigating a couple from Haifa suspected of orchestrating a systematic theft spree during a family vacation in Eilat. The couple, both in their late 30s, reportedly involved their young children, aged eight and nine, in stealing merchandise from multiple stores across the southern city over the past two weeks. The stolen items were concealed in their infant daughter's stroller, enabling the family to smuggle goods out of shops undetected. Authorities estimate the total value of the stolen property at over 100,000 shekels.

The investigation revealed that while the family was ostensibly enjoying their holiday, the parents actively directed their children to participate in the thefts. Last Friday, the district court denied the police's request to extend the mother's detention, ordering her release to house arrest under restrictive conditions. Meanwhile, the father remains in custody, with his detention extended until the coming Thursday. The case file will soon be reviewed by the Eilat prosecution unit to determine whether formal charges will be filed.
