Serial Hotel Theft in Eilat Leads to 27 Charges Against Main Suspect
A series of thefts targeting guests at the Astral Maris Hotel in Eilat has resulted in 27 indictments against the main suspect, Itay Gal-On. The suspect allegedly collaborated with a hotel employee to enter guest rooms using a master key card while guests were at the pool, stealing tens of thousands of shekels in cash, credit cards, and personal belongings. Surveillance footage captured the suspect knocking on doors, entering rooms, and carrying stolen items, later discarding a bag in panic before fleeing.
Following the thefts, the suspects reportedly used the stolen credit cards for shopping sprees around Eilat. The police investigation, which lasted about two weeks, identified two suspects and led to the filing of multiple charges. Defense attorneys for the accused deny the allegations, with one claiming the suspect was injured during detention.
The Astral Hotels network stated that the incident was likely the work of a criminal group operating in the city, but praised the quick detection and immediate police notification that led to the suspects’ swift arrest. Guests expressed shock and distress over the breach of security during what was supposed to be a safe vacation period in Eilat.
The police continue their investigation, and the legal process is ongoing as the accused face multiple charges related to the thefts.
