Lebanese Army Thwarts Major Smuggling Operation Near Beirut Involving Drugs and Cash

The Lebanese Army recently intercepted a large-scale smuggling operation near Zouk Mosbeh in Keserwan, a few kilometers north of Beirut. The operation involved the seizure of cash and dozens of kilograms of stimulant drugs intended for trafficking purposes. The suspects were identified through military intelligence and surveillance activities in the area. When the army forces closed in, a firefight broke out after one suspect opened fire on the soldiers, who returned fire and wounded the attacker.

During the search, the Lebanese Army discovered 60 kilograms of Captagon pills and powder, a drug widely used by criminal organizations and terrorist groups such as Hezbollah as a significant economic resource. Additionally, the suspects' vehicles contained weapons, ammunition, hand grenades, and numerous counterfeit banknotes. The army spokesperson confirmed the operation's success but did not disclose the suspects' names.
