Shin Bet Chief David Zini Meets Former PM Naftali Bennett Amid Criticism

Shin Bet Chief David Zini recently held an extended meeting with former Prime Minister and Yachdav party leader Naftali Bennett, according to a report by Channel 12 on July 26, 2026. The meeting was initiated by Zini following Bennett's public statement in an interview with Yonit Levi, where Bennett promised to replace any government appointees who fail to serve Israel properly or bring politics into their roles.

During the discussion, they addressed security concerns, particularly the rising threats against current and former public officials. Over the past year, there have been several reported attempts by terror cells to target Bennett both online and physically. Bennett's office did not respond to requests for comment, and the Shin Bet declined to provide details.

This meeting comes amid a tense election campaign. It was also intended to clarify to Bennett, a candidate for prime minister, that Zini's loyalty lies with the state rather than any individual leader. Zini emphasized his commitment to work professionally with any government administration. Earlier reports noted Zini's meeting with former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot, but it has now emerged that Zini also sought a meeting with Bennett.
