Shin Bet Chief David Zini Meets with Gadi Eisenkot Amid Criticism

Shin Bet Chief David Zini recently met with Gadi Eisenkot, chairman of the "Yesh" party and a candidate for prime minister, to address criticism Eisenkot had voiced against him. The meeting followed public remarks by Zini stating his loyalty to the political echelon "regardless of its composition," comments that Eisenkot strongly condemned. Earlier this month, at an Argaman Institute conference, Zini explained that he accepted the Shin Bet role because he felt uniquely qualified to be loyal to the elected leadership, regardless of their views. He criticized the elected officials’ ability to manage their responsibilities, noting delays and confusion about roles within government frameworks. Zini acknowledged the challenges of living democratic values daily and emphasized his internal drive and worldview, rejecting the notion that he is a mere puppet. He described his role as advancing his agenda responsibly and decisively, acting as the "engine" of the system while maintaining humility toward elected officials. Days later, Eisenkot told Channel 13 that any head of an organization who claimed personal loyalty to him over the state would be immediately dismissed.
