Shin Bet Chief Meets Gadi Eizenkot Amidst Sharp Criticism

Shin Bet Chief David Zini recently met with Gadi Eizenkot, chairman of the "Yesh" party and a candidate for prime minister, according to a report by Channel 13 on Thursday evening. The meeting aimed to ease the criticism Eizenkot had directed at Zini following remarks in which Zini stated he was "loyal to the political echelon regardless of who it is." Eizenkot strongly condemned these comments.

Earlier in the month, Zini spoke at an Argaman Institute conference, explaining that he accepted his role because he felt highly qualified to be loyal to the elected leadership, "no matter their views." He criticized the elected officials' ability to manage their responsibilities effectively, noting delays in implementing directives and describing the political environment as confused about roles. Zini also warned of dangers and emphasized that living democratic values daily is challenging.

Zini described himself as driven by his own worldview, not as a puppet, and sees his role as advancing his agenda responsibly and decisively, acting as the "engine" of the system. However, he stressed the importance of humility toward elected officials and knowing when to be "the last car on the train."

Days later, in an interview with Channel 13, Eizenkot stated that any head of an organization who claims personal loyalty to him rather than to the state would be immediately dismissed.
