Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa Says Syria Seeks Security Agreement with Israel

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa announced on Sunday that Syria is actively working toward securing a security agreement with Israel, involving other countries in the process. He emphasized that a breakthrough in these talks could pave the way for peace without Syria relinquishing its rights, particularly regarding the Golan Heights. In an interview with Al Jazeera, al-Sharaa explained that Syria avoids conflict with Israel because it has no interest in escalation and expressed concern about the potential spread of war in the region. He stated, "If the security agreement with Israel succeeds, it will pave the way for comprehensive peace without surrendering Syria's rights over the Golan." Additionally, al-Sharaa clarified that Syria does not intend to intervene militarily in Lebanon but is engaged in discussions with the Lebanese government to find solutions that will help make Lebanon a safer place.
