Maccabi Haifa Suspends Defender Pedro After Injury, Opens Foreign Player Slot
Maccabi Haifa has decided to suspend defender Pedro following a recent injury expected to sideline him for at least a month. Instead of loaning or releasing him, the club will remove Pedro from the squad for at least the upcoming half-season, freeing up a foreign player slot. Currently, Haifa's foreign roster includes Nigel Ludewijk, Tsunami, Yila Betay, Cedric Don, Bruninho, Manuel Benson, and Andrea Novakovic. With Pedro's suspension and the imminent releases of Peter Agba and Matias Nahuel, who have yet to find new clubs, Haifa will have room for one additional foreign player if needed.
Pedro, 29, joined Maccabi Haifa in summer 2024 for a transfer fee of 1.3 million euros from Portuguese club Portimonense. He made only 17 appearances across all competitions before suffering a meniscus tear. This injury follows a previous one that caused him to miss the entire last season, and he has struggled to regain full fitness since.
