IDF Prepares Major Operation in Nablus After Violent Attack Near Gilead Farm

This morning, an uncoordinated hike by dozens of Israelis entered the Palestinian village of Tal near Gilead Farm in Area A and B of the West Bank. There, around the southern mosque, dozens of Palestinians attacked the hikers, prompting security forces from Gilead Farm and the IDF to respond. A violent clash ensued, including gunfire. During the confrontation, a Palestinian militant seized a weapon from Benyahu Malt, a member of the hikers' security team. The deputy commander of the IDF’s 411th Artillery Battalion, who was securing the area, shot and killed the assailant. The IDF stated that the rapid arrival of reinforcements prevented a more severe outcome and emphasized that the incident was spontaneous, not premeditated or involving the local Palestinian village security committee.

The clash resulted in the deaths of four to five Palestinians and injuries to five others, who were evacuated to Nablus. The IDF continues to investigate the event but currently maintains control over the situation in Tal. A lockdown has been imposed on Tal and the nearby village of Beit Furik. In response, the IDF plans a focused operation in Nablus, including arrests, in coordination with the Border Police and Shin Bet. Two IDF battalions were mobilized to prevent further friction and nationalist violence from both sides. Weapons seized during the incident are now in IDF custody.

The IDF is also reinforcing troop deployments across Judea and Samaria. The funeral for Benyahu Malt is scheduled for this afternoon at Gilead Farm, with heightened military and police presence along travel routes to prevent nationalist revenge attacks. The week has seen escalating tensions, including a large fire at Gilead Farm caused by a discarded cigarette and a stabbing attack near Beit Furik and Elon Moreh, where two militants were killed. The IDF notes a sustained rise in terror activity in the West Bank, including lone attackers and terror cells, linked to influences from Iran, Turkey, and other terror groups. In response, the IDF has deployed the Paratroopers Brigade to reinforce West Bank operations, with 24 battalions expected to be active within two weeks. The growth of over 80 outposts and 126 agricultural farms in the area has further complicated security and increased daily friction between Israelis and Palestinians.
