Police Use Tear Gas to Disperse Beitar Jerusalem Fans in Larnaca Ahead of Conference League Match

On Thursday, less than 24 hours before Beitar Jerusalem's Conference League qualifier against AEK Larnaca, violent clashes erupted in Larnaca involving Beitar fans. According to local Cypriot media, a group of Beitar supporters marched through the city center, causing property damage and carrying dangerous objects. Police responded with a large force and used tear gas to disperse the crowd. After the intervention, the fans scattered into nearby alleys, prompting a wide police manhunt to identify and arrest those involved.

The local news site LarnakaOnline reported that the police operation continued late into the night, with officers deployed across the city. Authorities eventually regained control shortly after midnight. Meridian Sport noted that the provocative behavior of Beitar fans has forced the police to prepare stricter security measures for the upcoming match, including possible reinforcements, and warned AEK fans to remain cautious.

Additionally, a letter from the Radisson Blu Hotel management in Larnaca, where Beitar fans are staying, was circulated on social media. The letter welcomed the fans but expressed disappointment over graffiti vandalism on the hotel grounds, complaints about noise, and the strong smell of cannabis smoke. The hotel urged fans to behave respectfully and wished them success in the match and an easy fast for Tisha B'Av.

Earlier on the same day, Beitar Jerusalem lost 3-1 on penalties to Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Toto Cup after a 2-2 draw in regular time. The upcoming match against AEK Larnaca is scheduled for 19:30 and will be broadcast on Sport4.
