Erez Isakov Becomes Player-Owner of Maccabi HaSharon Netanya Football Club
Erez Isakov has officially acquired Maccabi HaSharon Netanya, a Liga Gimel football club, marking his entry as a new owner in Israeli football. The acquisition was completed following discussions with the previous owners, Ilan and Shimon Atiya, who will continue managing the club operationally while Isakov assumes ownership.
Isakov, a former player who recently retired, is currently filming a documentary series about his family, which includes footage of the club purchase journey. In a surprising move, he announced his return from retirement to actively play for the Liga Gimel team.
His first decision as owner was to appoint Shlomi Dahan, a former player for Maccabi Netanya, Borussia Dortmund, and Maccabi Haifa, as the team's coach. Dahan will lead the club in the upcoming season in the Samaria district of Liga Gimel. Isakov plans to support the team professionally and aims to recruit several well-known former players to help the club achieve promotion. Among those he intends to approach is Lior Berkovich, a former teammate from Goldstar who retired at 26, with hopes of convincing him to return to the field two years after retiring.
