Volkswagen T-Roc Second Generation Impresses with Design and Performance Amid Rising Competition
Volkswagen's second-generation T-Roc, launched last year, has become the brand's top-selling model in Europe, surpassing even the Tesla Model Y. This compact family crossover competes with models like the Hyundai Kona, Toyota Corolla Cross, and Kia Niro, offering a modern, clean design that leans towards a premium feel. The vehicle measures 4.37 meters in length with a wheelbase of 2.63 meters, slightly larger than its predecessor, and features a minimalist interior with a 12.9-inch multimedia screen and digital instrument cluster. The tested 150-horsepower variant delivers smooth performance with a focus on comfortable cruising rather than sporty driving. Fuel efficiency during highway testing reached approximately 14.5 km/l, with official combined figures around 17-18 km/l depending on wheel size. The vehicle's driving dynamics are predictable and safe, with precise steering and braking, and an adaptive suspension system that balances comfort and control.
Safety ratings are strong, with a five-star Euro NCAP score and numerous active safety features including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, driver alertness monitoring, and automatic high beams. Volkswagen plans to introduce a full hybrid powertrain next year, which will be critical for markets like Israel. The current generation T-Roc is expected to arrive locally next year, potentially priced competitively to reclaim Volkswagen's position in the crowded compact SUV segment dominated by Korean and Japanese rivals, as well as Chinese imports.
