Haredi Group Launches Discount Card Supporting Yeshiva Draft Resisters Amid Sanctions

The Haredi organization "Brothers We Are" has introduced a new discount card called "Ashrich" aimed at yeshiva students who evade military service, known as draft resisters. The card offers discounts ranging from 5% to 20%, and in some cases up to 50%, at over 400 businesses across Israel, including rafting on the Jordan River, extreme boating in Ashdod, and various Haredi community shops. The initiative seeks to provide economic support and express solidarity with yeshiva students facing intensified enforcement measures.

This launch comes amid increased sanctions against draft evaders, including the revocation of tax benefits for yeshivas that do not regulate their students' status, arrest warrants issued for resisters, and travel bans imposed on thousands of potential conscripts. "Brothers We Are" states that the card aims to show that these sanctions will not break the community's resolve. So far, about 20,000 cards have been distributed, with a goal of reaching 100,000.

The cards are personalized with the holder's name and ID number and are part of a broader effort by the organization to support the community, which also includes assistance during protests and advocacy at recruitment offices. The group encourages cardholders to report any businesses that do not honor the discounts. The card's slogan reads, "Caught? You're blessed! Dear Torah hero!" reflecting the community's defiance against the enforcement actions.
