Freddy Vargas Signs Two-Year Deal with Neftchi Baku After Loan from Maccabi Netanya
Neftchi Baku officially announced the purchase of Venezuelan forward Freddy Vargas from Maccabi Netanya for approximately 900,000 euros. Vargas, who was loaned to the Azerbaijani club last season after expressing no desire to return to play in Israel, signed a two-year contract with an option for a third season.
Vargas originally joined Netanya from Bnei Reineh and had two years remaining on his contract before Neftchi exercised the purchase option. Had the option not been exercised, Netanya would have needed to honor his contract or find another club for him. During his loan at Neftchi, Vargas scored five goals and provided eight assists in 32 appearances across all competitions. Previously, while at Netanya, he recorded four goals and eight assists.
The transfer marks a permanent move for Vargas, who has become an important player for Neftchi Baku in the Azerbaijan Premier League.
