Israeli Tech Firm Monday.com Cuts Hundreds of Jobs Amid AI Shift and Market Challenges

Monday.com, a leading Israeli software company specializing in project management platforms, announced a significant workforce reduction affecting 620 employees globally, about 20% of its staff. Founded in 2012 by Roy Mann and Eran Zinman, the company is undertaking this restructuring to realign its organizational structure and adapt its product offerings to the emerging era of artificial intelligence (AI).

The layoffs will heavily impact the company's Israeli workforce, where over half of its employees are based. Monday.com explained that the reorganization aims to create smaller, more agile teams capable of faster decision-making by reducing management layers and empowering frontline employees with clearer project ownership. This strategic shift is designed to enhance competitiveness by focusing on AI-driven product development and maintaining close customer relationships.

The decision comes amid a sharp decline in Monday.com's stock value, which has lost approximately 50% since the start of the year and about 75% over the past twelve months, currently valued at around $3.1 billion. The company also faced challenges after Google integrated AI-generated answers into its search results, reducing traffic to Monday.com's sites and complicating customer acquisition.

Additionally, macroeconomic factors in Israel, such as the low dollar-to-shekel exchange rate, have negatively affected profitability since most revenues are in foreign currency while over 55% of payroll expenses are paid in shekels. These financial pressures, combined with high acquisition costs and changing policies among major tech players, led to the extensive job cuts as part of a broader strategic realignment.
