Thai Princess Dies at 47 After Three Years in a Coma
Thailand’s Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the eldest daughter of King Rama X, has died at the age of 47, the royal palace announced. She had been in a coma for the past three years after collapsing from an illness. The palace said she suffered from an infection typically associated with pneumonia.
According to the report, the princess collapsed during dog training for a military display. She was widely seen as the strongest candidate among the king’s children to succeed him, although she had never been formally named crown princess.
Her death ends years of uncertainty around her health and succession prospects within Thailand’s royal family. The palace announcement did not say what the next steps would be regarding the royal succession.
