Jason Odeh Convicted of Murdering Yelena Granberg in Premeditated Killing

The Central District Court in Lod convicted Jason Odeh today of the premeditated murder of Yelena Granberg, who was killed in August 2022. The court accepted the prosecution's argument that Odeh deliberately planned and executed the murder of his close friend after she repeatedly rejected his romantic advances. Prosecutors Hind Nablasi, Efrat Far-Grundland, and Shachaf Kleinman emphasized that the conviction reflects the severity of this planned killing, highlighting the broader issue of violence against women in Israel. Odeh faces a mandatory life sentence for the crime.

According to the verdict, Odeh and Granberg had been friends for about four years. After multiple rejections of his romantic proposals, Odeh decided to kill her. He prepared by acquiring a knife and gasoline bottles. On the day of the murder, while driving to Granberg's sister's apartment, he stopped at a train station parking lot in Rehovot, stabbed her multiple times in the neck, back, and hands until she died, despite her screams. He then transported her body to an open area, poured gasoline over it, but for unknown reasons did not set it on fire.

The court, led by Judge A. Kovo, rejected all defense claims, including provocations by the victim, and found Odeh's testimony full of lies and contradictions. The ruling stated that Odeh's actions clearly demonstrated premeditation and intent to kill, with over ten stab wounds inflicted to ensure her death. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for October 7, 2026.
