Fenerbahce Wins, Thun and Dinamo Zagreb Draw in Champions League Qualifiers

The 2026/27 UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds are underway following the conclusion of the World Cup, with four second-round matches played on Tuesday and return legs scheduled for next week. In Switzerland, Thun and Dinamo Zagreb drew 1-1 in a crucial tie where the loser will face Hapoel Be'er Sheva if Be'er Sheva does not win their match. Thun, the reigning Swiss champions, took the lead in the 20th minute through Brighton Levao, marking their first Champions League goal in 21 years. Dinamo Zagreb's Mica Zak equalized in the 86th minute, setting up a decisive second leg in Croatia.

Meanwhile, Turkish club Fenerbahce secured a 1-0 victory over Polish side Gornik Zabrze. Fenerbahce, which had an active summer transfer window signing notable players including last season's La Liga second top scorer, Daut Moriki, Mason Greenwood from Marseille, and Nathan Aké from Manchester City, won thanks to a superb free-kick by Aleksandar Taliska in the 37th minute. This win brings Fenerbahce closer to reaching the Champions League group stage for the first time since the 2008/09 season.
