Large Fire Near Givat Gilad Causes Massive Damage, No Casualties Reported

A large fire broke out on Saturday afternoon near the West Bank settlement of Givat Gilad, forcing residents to evacuate their homes. Yehuda Cohen, a local resident who lost his wood storage shed in the blaze, described noticing smoke spreading in the area and quickly alerting the regional security coordinator. Within minutes, residents began evacuating, with children and adults rushed to vehicles amid chaotic scenes where some cars stalled or caught fire.

Cohen reported that his entire wood shed, along with equipment and tools, was completely destroyed, estimating damages at around 10 million shekels. Other local businesses also suffered significant losses. The community suspects the fire was deliberately set due to nationalist motives, citing previous arson incidents in the region.

Despite the extensive property damage, Cohen emphasized that no injuries or fatalities occurred. He recalled fearing there would be deaths as the fire spread rapidly, forcing people to flee. The community is now focused on recovery, with Cohen expressing hope and resilience, stating, "We are still gathering the pieces. It is too early to talk about recovery, but we are a strong community with faith, and we believe we will grow from this."
