Former Maccabi Tel Aviv Midfielder Van Overeem Joins Utrecht for Record Fee

Yoris van Overeem, the Dutch-Israeli midfielder and former Maccabi Tel Aviv player, is set to join FC Utrecht in the Netherlands for a career-high transfer fee of one million euros. Van Overeem, who previously played for Utrecht before moving to Maccabi Tel Aviv on a free transfer, had been with Heracles Almelo after leaving Maccabi. Just two weeks ago, Utrecht offered around 300,000 euros for him, but the final deal reflects his increased value.

Van Overeem originally joined Utrecht before the 2018/19 season for 700,000 euros and spent three seasons there before transferring to Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he won two league titles over two years. In the most recent season, he scored two goals and provided nine assists, helping his team finish eighth. Toward the end of the season, he was appointed team captain and alternated between defensive midfield and center-back roles. His last official match was against Utrecht in the Conference League qualification playoffs.

This transfer marks a significant step in Van Overeem's career, returning to the Dutch league with a substantial fee after his free transfer departure from Maccabi Tel Aviv.
