Former Maccabi Tel Aviv Midfielder Van Overeem Joins Utrecht for Record Fee
Yoris van Overeem, the Dutch-Israeli midfielder and former Maccabi Tel Aviv player, is set to transfer to FC Utrecht for a career-high fee of one million euros. Van Overeem, who left Maccabi Tel Aviv on a free transfer and previously played for Heerenveen, had been with Utrecht before the 2018/19 season, initially joining them for 700,000 euros. After three seasons at Utrecht, he moved to Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he won two league titles over two years.
This season, Van Overeem scored two goals and provided nine assists, helping his current team finish eighth in the Dutch league. Towards the end of the season, he was appointed team captain and alternated between defensive midfield and center-back positions. Utrecht had initially offered around 300,000 euros for him just two weeks ago, but the final transfer fee has now risen to one million euros. His last official match was against Utrecht in the Conference League promotion playoffs.
The transfer marks a significant step in Van Overeem's career as he returns to the Dutch Eredivisie with a substantial transfer fee, reflecting his value and experience gained both in Israel and the Netherlands.
