John Otoamou Signs Historic Deal With French Club Reims

John Otoamou, a 19-year-old defensive midfielder who rose through Hapoel Jerusalem's youth ranks, has officially signed with French Ligue 1 club Reims. The transfer, completed on July 16, 2026, marks the largest sale in Hapoel Jerusalem's history, with the club receiving 1.6 million euros. This surpasses the previous record of 1.5 million euros set by Cedric Don's transfer to Maccabi Haifa earlier this year.

Otoamou attracted interest from several European clubs, including Porto, Benfica, Lorient, and some Premier League teams, but ultimately chose Reims. He joined Hapoel Jerusalem's youth team last summer after being scouted at a talent tournament in Nigeria and brought to Israel by agent Dudi Uziel. While playing for the youth squad, he trained with the senior team and became a regular starter due to injuries, making 19 league appearances all as a starter.

Upon his departure, Otoamou expressed gratitude to the club's staff and management for their support and development, thanking the fans and wishing Hapoel Jerusalem continued success. This transfer highlights the growing prominence of Israeli clubs in developing young talent for European leagues.
