John Otoamou Signs Historic Deal With French Club Reims

John Otoamou, a 19-year-old defensive midfielder who rose through Hapoel Jerusalem's youth ranks, has officially signed with French Ligue 1 club Reims. The transfer, finalized on July 16, 2026, marks the largest sale in Hapoel Jerusalem's history, with the club receiving 1.6 million euros. This surpasses the previous record of 1.5 million euros set by Cedric Don's transfer to Maccabi Haifa earlier this year.

Otoamou attracted interest from several prominent clubs, including Porto, Benfica, Lorient, and various Premier League teams, but ultimately chose Reims. He joined Hapoel Jerusalem's youth team last summer after being scouted at a talent tournament in Nigeria and brought to Israel by agent Dudi Uziel. While playing for the youth squad, he trained with the senior team and secured a regular starting position due to injuries, making 19 league appearances all as a starter.

Upon his departure, Otoamou expressed gratitude to the club's staff, management, and fans, stating, "Without the support I received at the club, I would not have reached this moment. To the best fans in the league, thank you for everything. I only wish Hapoel continued success."
