Israeli Knesset Approves Party Funding Increase Ahead of October Elections

The 25th Knesset plenary session approved in its second and third readings an amendment to the Party Funding Law in preparation for the 26th Knesset elections. The proposal passed unanimously with 62 members of Knesset voting in favor, and no opposition or abstentions.

According to the amendment, the advance election funding for parties will increase from 70% to 80% of the funding unit allocated per Knesset member. Additionally, the supplementary funding for each party will rise from one funding unit to 1.4 units. New parties and lists will be eligible to receive an early advance of two funding units, subject to a guarantee, and subsequently may receive advances of up to ten funding units.

This legislative change aims to provide greater financial support to political parties ahead of the upcoming elections scheduled for October 27, 2022, facilitating their campaign activities and participation in the electoral process.
