Senegal Football Federation Chief Reveals National Team Doctor Is Actually a Gynecologist

The turmoil within the Senegal national football team following their elimination from the 2026 World Cup continues to escalate. After coach Pape Thiao resigned following a 3-2 extra-time loss to Belgium in the round of 32, Senegal Football Federation chairman Abdoulaye Fall made a startling revelation about the team’s medical staff. Fall disclosed that the team’s doctor for the past decade, Dr. Abderrahmane Fadiour, is not medically qualified to treat football players but is instead a gynecologist and obstetrician by profession. "I only recently discovered that Dr. Fadiour is actually a gynecologist and midwife," Fall stated. "In practice, our head doctor did not have the proper academic training to oversee the players."

Fall added that this issue has undermined the players’ trust in the medical team. "Based on the feedback I received, the players did not have full confidence in him," he said. This controversy arises amid a turbulent period for Senegalese football after their World Cup exit. Shortly after the defeat to Belgium, coach Pape Thiao announced his resignation, and now the medical staff faces severe criticism from the federation’s leadership. As of now, Dr. Fadiour has not responded to the allegations made by the federation chairman.
