Former Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked Condemns Coalition Over Draft Dodgers Law

Former Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked launched a fierce attack against the current Israeli coalition and the Religious Zionism party following the Knesset's approval of the law freezing the detention of draft dodgers on Tuesday. In a sharp tweet on her X account, Shaked called the law's passage "an anti-Zionist disgrace," accusing the Likud and Religious Zionism parties of scorning those who serve in the military while praising those who evade service.

Shaked directly blamed the current leadership of the Religious Zionism faction within the coalition, asserting that they harm both the serving public and the families of soldiers. She charged that the party has stolen the name of the proud sector from hundreds of thousands of families who bear the burden of defending the homeland. To underscore her criticism, Shaked concluded with a quote from the Babylonian Talmud (Pesachim), highlighting the moral distortion she sees in passing the law at this time: "I have seen a world turned upside down, those who are superior are brought low, and those who are low are raised up."
