WhatsApp Business for Android Adds Multi-Account Support on Single Device
Starting today, WhatsApp Business for Android introduces a new feature allowing users to manage two separate business accounts on one device without needing an additional phone. This update completes a shift that began with personal WhatsApp accounts, which have supported multiple accounts since 2023, but until now, the business app lacked this capability. Previously, users needing two phone numbers had to install WhatsApp Business as a workaround, even if they did not require business features.
The new multi-account functionality targets millions of business owners who juggle customer interactions alongside personal life, enabling them to consolidate all activity within a single app. Each business profile maintains independent settings, automated replies, and contact lists, ensuring professionalism and operational convenience for small and medium enterprises. The feature, currently available in the Android beta version, guarantees complete separation of customer data and conversations between accounts.
Meta emphasizes that despite both accounts being on the same device, end-to-end encryption remains intact for every chat. Users will see activity indicators for inactive accounts but must actively switch to read messages. To activate the feature, users can check the WhatsApp Business settings menu for a plus button next to the account name, then add a second phone number with SMS verification. The second number must be unique and not linked to WhatsApp elsewhere. Devices supporting dual SIM or eSIM technology facilitate this setup.
Switching between accounts is seamless via a quick tap in the chat tab’s menu, without app closure or re-login. This Android update follows WhatsApp’s recent rollout of multi-account support for iPhone users, addressing the inconvenience of carrying multiple devices. Meta continues to reduce platform disparities to build a secure and private ecosystem across operating systems.
