WhatsApp Rolls Out New Feature Allowing Channel Admins to Display Dedicated Profiles

WhatsApp has begun rolling out a new feature that enables channel administrators to create dedicated profiles displayed alongside their updates. This feature aims to help followers identify who is behind each update while keeping the admin's personal account information separate and private. Currently, the feature is available to a limited number of users on the WhatsApp Android beta version 2.26.33.7.

Admins can set a unique name and profile picture for their channel activity, distinct from their personal account details. Once activated, the chosen name and image appear directly on updates posted in the channel, allowing followers to see which admin published the content. The option, called “Show admin profile on updates,” is off by default and must be enabled manually in the channel settings. It can also be disabled at any time.

The profile name can be up to 25 characters long, and admins can preview how their profile will appear before saving it. Importantly, the feature maintains full separation from the personal account: the admin’s phone number remains hidden, and the profile does not automatically use the personal account’s name or picture. Admins managing multiple channels can create different profiles for each, tailoring their displayed identity to each channel.

This update is particularly significant for channels with multiple admins, as it allows followers and admins themselves to easily identify who posted each update, replacing the previous anonymous appearance of all posts. The feature was first revealed about eight months ago during earlier beta testing. WhatsApp has not yet announced a timeline for a full public release, and the rollout will continue gradually over the coming weeks.
