Thailand Plans New Direct Flights from Israel Amid Record Tourism Growth

Thailand is set to expand its direct flight routes from Israel to new destinations within the kingdom, responding to a surge in Israeli tourism. The Thai Tourism Authority announced this strategic move in collaboration with the Israeli Embassy following unprecedented tourism data showing Israel as the leading Western country in per capita visitors to Thailand. Currently, El Al and Arkia operate direct flights from Tel Aviv to Bangkok and Phuket, but new routes are planned to broaden access.

From January to early July 2026, 181,872 Israelis visited Thailand, with projections estimating over 442,000 Israeli tourists by year-end. Israeli travelers stay an average of 19 days and spend approximately 9,000 shekels each during their visits. The Tourism Authority is launching a luxury and sustainability-focused campaign targeting Israeli tourists, emphasizing quality over quantity and promoting Thailand’s visa-free 30-day entry for Israelis.

The campaign highlights major Thai cultural events such as the Songkran Festival, Loi Krathong, Tomorrowland Thailand, and the Vijit Chao Phraya festival in Bangkok. These initiatives were announced after a meeting between Thai Tourism Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool and Israeli Ambassador Dr. Alona Fisher-Kamm, who praised Israeli tourists as a cornerstone of bilateral relations and a cultural bridge between the nations.

This development marks a significant enhancement in Thailand-Israel tourism ties, aiming to capitalize on the growing Israeli market and promote sustainable, high-quality travel experiences in Thailand.
